Note: Be creative and try substituting to use what’s in season:

  • Most berries can be swapped for one another, just adjust other sweet ingredients to taste if using berries that are more or less tart.
  • Switch one kind of winter squash for another, like pumpkin and butternut.
  • Substitute homemade pumpkin puree in recipes that call for canned.
  • Try trading carrots for parsnips or other root vegetables.
